What we collect
Your account details — name, email address and a hashed password, which means we cannot read your password and neither can anyone who steals our database. Billing and subscription records. The website addresses you ask us to analyse. The keyword research you run. The blog posts that get generated. Click and view analytics for posts you publish through us. And anything you send us through the contact form.
Our server logs also record IP addresses, browser type and which pages were visited, in the ordinary way every web server does.
Why we have it
- To actually run the service — analysis, research, writing, publishing and tracking
- To take payment and manage your subscription
- To keep the thing secure and working, and to help you when something breaks
- To send you service emails such as receipts and account notices
Marketing emails only go to people who have opted in. If you never ticked a box, you will never get one.
Analytics
We use first-party analytics on this site — meaning the data stays with us rather than being handed to an advertising network. For your own published posts we track clicks and views so you can see which posts are bringing people in, and from which countries and cities. If you want your own IP address excluded from your reports so your visits do not skew the numbers, ask and we will do it.
Who else sees it
We do not sell personal information and we do not intend to start. Your data is shared only with the companies we need to run the service: our payment processors, our hosting provider, and the AI content providers who generate the drafts. Each of them only receives what is necessary for their part of the job.
We would also have to disclose information if New Zealand law required it of us. That has not happened, and if it does we will tell you unless we are legally prevented from doing so.
How long we keep it
Account and billing data stays while your account is open, and afterwards for as long as our legal and accounting obligations require — generally seven years for financial records under New Zealand tax law. Content and analytics we can delete on request at any time.
Security
Everything runs over HTTPS, access to production systems is restricted, and passwords are hashed. We take it seriously. We are also not going to claim that any system is perfectly secure, because none is.
What you can ask us to do
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and ask us to delete it. You can update most profile details yourself in your dashboard. For anything else, email us through the contact page and we will get back to you within a working day.
If you are not happy with how we have handled a privacy matter, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
